  • Greenwich Heights, Marcus (guest) wrote 18 years ago:
This block was originally a Ministry of Defence building where officers were housed, hence the street name (not shown in Wikimapia): Master Gunner Place. It was built in the 60s but refurbished completely for private sale in 1998, and it is now occupied by owners and tenants who have formed a Residents' Association. This is actively fighting against the placement of radio, mobile and other antennas on the roof, which is one of the highest points in the area. The block has private parking, a gym and a sauna, as well as views across Woolwich Common to the East or the full London city skyline to the West.

According to the ODA's Sustainable Development Strategy published 24/01/07: "Safeguarded habitat refuges, especially Bully Point, will be surrounded by log walls created using timber felled in site clearance. These walls will be reclaimed from other areas of the Park and used instead of the standard chain link fence used in construction zones, where feasible to do so, forming a protective and decorative boundary. Untreated log walls provide habitat features of great benefit to important groups such as reptiles, amphibians, specialist dead wood invertebrates and lower plants. They will also make a significant contribution to amphibian and reptile mitigation requirements." <http://www.london2012.com/NR/rdonlyres/38C84324-60BF-4442-AD58-2CE9F840A90B/0/SustainableDevelopmentStrategyFullversion.pdf>
