The Studio is actually built on the sight of The Star Steam Laundry. Which occupied the total site. During the 1930,s and until the late 1950,s. Ran a fleet of vans to deliverey the packets of laudry. The wahing tubs and ironing rollers. Were powered by belts running from a steam engine in the basement next to the railway. After WW1 ended. An air raid sireen was used on the commensment and ending of the days shift.
I lived in number 16 Anton Street during the war years. The adjacent park known as Hackney Downs was a very smart and popular place of recreation. With several Park Attendants all in brown uniforms.
Andre Street in which there are motor works. Had an entranse leading to a Grammer Scholl known as "The Grocers". Boasted a balcksmith and a Coach Company called "Cream Coaches" all situated under the arches of the railway embankment. On which a regular and busy steam service between Liverpool Street and Endfield Town ran. Also a service to Palace Gates[Wood Street] changing at Seven Sisters Road.

This is the oldest Lamb & Flag in London, the atmosphere is excellent. Original style pub with no music drowning out everyone, just the pure sound of people chatting away.

On the 14th of March, at a quarter to three in the afternoon, the greatest living thinker ceased to think. He had been left alone for scarcely two minutes, and when we came back we found him in his armchair, peacefully gone to sleep - but forever. -- Friedrich Engels
