"Chemical alert halts cable-laying at 2012 site
Work on laying power cables under the Olympic Park in Stratford, east
London, has been suspended for the past month after traces of chemicals
were discovered. The Olympic Delivery Authority said the delay would
not affect the construction schedule for the park. Work was halted
after traces of naphthalene and benzene were found in one of four
tunnels, but will resume later this week. Eleven workers were taken to
hospital for precautionary tests after similar chemicals were found in
a different tunnel two months ago. The ODA said it was a "routine
health and safety issue".
